Best Student Laptops 2012

I remember when I graduated high school that I was so excited to finally get my first laptop. I didn’t actually do much research before choosing the one I wanted, and based my purchase solely off aesthetics when my dad took me to Fry’s Electronics in Fountain Valley to pick out a laptop. Thankfully, I lucked out in my choice and picked a good laptop, one that still works five years later. Here is a list of the top ten laptops for students for 2011.

1.Toshiba Tecra R850-S8550
The Tecra is among Toshiba’smost durable laptops, which is perfect for your student to carry in a backpack while walking around campus. It comes with all the most up-to-date technologies, including bluetooth, while also catering to the more archaic technologies with which we used to be so familiar, such as an Ethernet. It can read memory cards, and includes a webcam (which might ever so slightly facilitate your college student’s increased correspondence). It is also equipped with a 15.6” wide screen, allowing it to double as a television for poor college students.

2. HP Pavilion g6 series
Surprisingly, this laptop is very inexpensive new, making it a great student laptop. It also comes with a year-long warranty, which is an added bonus.

With the most up-to-date Wi-Fi technology and a durable battery, your student will be able to work from almost anywhere for an extended period of time. Probably the most appealing characteristic of this laptop is that it comes in five different colors: charcoal gray, luminous rose, pacific blue, sonoma red, and sweet purple.

3. Gateway NV Series notebook
This is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing laptops available on the market today, razor-thin and simply (but elegantly) designed. One of the most original aspects of this laptop is the hotkeys option, allowing your student to click just once to get to his or her most used programs.

Equipped with all the latest technologies, including a webcam, fast Wi-Fi, and high resolution, this laptop is also offered in several colors, catering to your student’s personal preferences.

4. Apple MacBook Pro
This laptop is perfect for the more artistic or unique student, since it is not a PC. The drawback of the Macbook Pro is its hefty pricing, as it runs much more expensive than its PC counterparts.

However, its simple, sleek design combined with its energy efficiency are definitely benefits to purchasing this laptop. Updated with all the latest technologies in Wi-Fi, webcams, and so on.

5. Sony-VAIO S Series
With four different color options and a sturdy design, this laptop is great for any student. This laptop comes equipped with a 320 gigabyte hard drive, but you can choose to upgrade and get more memory space for a small fee.

It also comes with a CD and DVD player, but you can choose to upgrade to a Blu-ray Disc player for a price as well. The freedom to choose associated with this laptop makes it an ideal purchase for students, as you can personalize it to directly fit your student’s needs.

6. Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4830T-6642

This laptop is a very affordable, and the purchase includes a one-year warranty. Although there is less memory space and the technology isn’t as up-to-date as some of the other laptops on this list, this is perfect for the student that doesn’t always take the best care of “stuff”.

The Acer Aspire series will fill every student’s need adequately, so you need not worry about sending your student off to school unprepared. And although its features are sparser than the others on this list, it still comes with high definition resolution – an added benefit.

7. Samsung Series 9

Samsung makes some of the lightest laptops around, and the series 9 is no exception. However, don’t be fooled by its lightweight appearance, as it is still equipped with a hard drive with a shocking 630 gigabyte capacity.

It also comes with “PowerPlus” batteries, meaning that even after a couple of years, your battery will still work almost just as well as the day you buy it. This is perfect for students who will need to bring their laptops to classes every day.

8. Lenovo Essential B Series

This laptop comes with many of the features that have been touted for the others in this list. However, what makes this computer unique are the security features with which it is equipped. This laptop comes in several colors, making it easy to personalize for your student.

9. MSI CR650-016US

Equipped with nearly all the same technologies as every other laptop in this list, except one: its design is not that of a blank tablet, but rather includes graphics on the back. Appealing to students, yet still very functional. Also includes “dedicated media function keys”, making it even easier to use.

10. HP Mini 110 Netbook

Unlike the other computers on this list, the HP Mini 110 Netbook has only 10.1” of screen space. Which is part of what makes this laptop so perfect for students – it provides the ultimate in portability.

Don’t be fooled by its small size, it still allows for 500 gigabytes of storage, and even includes a webcam. For students for whom this computer just isn’t enough, you can actually sync this netbook with your PC using Windows Live Mesh. Comes in four different colors.

In this day and age it is important that students have access to the latest technology in order to succeed in their educations – which is why choosing the right laptop is so important.
